Burt doesn’t know life without hockey. He began at a young age and was able to make a career out playing the game he loved. At sixteen, Burt began his junior hockey career in the BCHL. He ended up winning a Canadian National Championship with the Kelowna Spartans in his second year in the league. He then went on to play three seasons in the WHL with the Kelowna Rockets where he served as their Captain in his final year, and took home League All-Star Honours. Burt would then embark on a 13 year career as a pro starting in 1996 playing for the Birmingham Bulls in the ECHL, and then for two seasons with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the IHL. He continued his professional career in Japan, playing in the Asian League for 8 years, two of which he played under head coach Willie Desjardins, the current Vancouver Canucks head coach.
He finished off his career in the British Elite League, where he played for 2 seasons, the last one serving as player/assistant coach. Burt came back home to serve as an assistant Coach for the SFU Men’s Hockey Team, winning the League Championship in 2011. In 2014, Burt became involved with the Langley Rivermen as Skill Development Coach. He helped launch the Spring Program, becoming Program Director and coaching 4 of the teams in the 2015 Spring season. He also coaches H3/H4 hockey, and is an assistant with the Bantam AAA hockey team at the Burnaby Winter Club. In addition to his coaching, Burt created ProVision Hockey Development providing skill development camps throughout the year with a special focus on developing defensemen.
